Somebody needs to be the stabilizing
influence in each situation
as it arises.

Why not you?

Upon what does your own stability depend?
What do you need to be dependably stable,
grounded,
centered,
at peace
within any situation that may arise,
in a "Here we are. Now what?" kind of way?

What do you turn to
when you have nowhere to turn?
How about yourself?
How about turning to you,
counting on you,
depending on you,
when everything else
is going to hell all around you?

How about you being the one
who sees what is happening,
hears what is being called for,
and does what needs to be done
out of your own original nature
and innate virtues/specialties/qualities?

What is your original nature?
What are your innate virtues/specialties/
qualities?

What can you count on about yourself?
What is always there for you
about you?
What do you know to be true
about you--
in a positive, helpful, creative
manner?

What keeps you from getting out of the way
in order for that to come to life
in you/through you
in each situation as it arises?

Who are you afraid of displeasing
by being yourself?
Who is keeping you
from being yourself?

How long has he/she been dead?

We live to please ghosts.
Who were incapable of being pleased
with themselves
or anyone else!

It's time to move on.
You be happy with you!
Lay the ghost to rest.
Finally.
At last.

I'm retired, and still finding my way--but now, I don't have to pretend that I know what I'm doing. I retired after 40.5 years as a minister in the Presbyterian Church USA, serving churches in Louisiana, Mississippi and North Carolina. I graduated from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, in Austin, Texas, and Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. My wife, Judy, and I have three daughters and five granddaughters within about twenty minutes from where we live--and are enjoying our retirement as much as we have ever enjoyed anything.
