Lake Chicot State Park — Ville Platte, Louisiana

The Human Experience is beyond imagining. How we deal with our lives is actually super-human. Ordinary people dealing with the trauma and tragedy of daily experience, and then thrown into war? What is that? PSTD from WWII and Vietnam haunts how many this far away from the impact of that horror? And we are all expected to take what life hands us and just carry on. That is an absurd insanity. And then there are school shootings and politicians who deserve institutionalization for allowing kids to get guns and shoot up their world because money buys votes. And we call ourselves civilized. I don’t know how normal people, that would be me and you, carry on with our daily lives. We need someone to hear us out on a regular basis, to help with the load we carry, what we have seen and cannot forget throughout our life in this place, this world.

I'm retired, and still finding my way--but now, I don't have to pretend that I know what I'm doing. I retired after 40.5 years as a minister in the Presbyterian Church USA, serving churches in Louisiana, Mississippi and North Carolina. I graduated from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, in Austin, Texas, and Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. My wife, Judy, and I have three daughters, five granddaughters, one great granddaughter, and a great grandson on the way, within about ten minutes from where we live--and are enjoying our retirement as much as we have ever enjoyed anything.
