Catawba River–Landsford Canal State Park, South Carolina

We find our pace and our place, figure out where we belong and where we have no business being, know what we enjoy and what we can do without and spend our time with the things that are right for us, letting it all come together and pass as a life well done. I am happy to have been here, but would have preferred to have had better choices. I cannot think of anything that wouldn’t be improved with better choices. But we take what we are given and do the best we can with it, and let that be that, as the old Taoist said. (He actually said, “Do your work and step aside, let nature take its course.) Like a cork on the water, a leaf in the wind.

I'm retired, and still finding my way--but now, I don't have to pretend that I know what I'm doing. I retired after 40.5 years as a minister in the Presbyterian Church USA, serving churches in Louisiana, Mississippi and North Carolina. I graduated from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, in Austin, Texas, and Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. My wife, Judy, and I have three daughters, five granddaughters, one great granddaughter, and a great grandson on the way, within about ten minutes from where we live--and are enjoying our retirement as much as we have ever enjoyed anything.
