Emptiness, stillness and silence
are the way to The Way,
which makes them The Way.

Which comes as bad news
to the extroverts among us,
which is why the Taoist sages
and Zen masters came up with the slogan,
"Practice, practice, practice."

The practice is simply being aware of,
and present with,
what is present with us
in any/every moment.

And, we can practice that
in any/every moment!

Emptying ourselves of all
that would interfere with
that awareness
and opening ourselves to it
in stillness and silence,
creates possibilities
for responses to the moment
that are not available
in the world
of noise, complexity and drama.

The power of simple presence
is the force that is with us
by virtue of our being present
with it--
and from there anything can happen,
though we do not control what,
when,
where
or how.

It is called
"Belonging to The Way
and seeing where it goes."

Like belonging to the wind,
that blows where it will!

I'm retired, and still finding my way--but now, I don't have to pretend that I know what I'm doing. I retired after 40.5 years as a minister in the Presbyterian Church USA, serving churches in Louisiana, Mississippi and North Carolina. I graduated from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, in Austin, Texas, and Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. My wife, Judy, and I have three daughters and five granddaughters within about twenty minutes from where we live--and are enjoying our retirement as much as we have ever enjoyed anything.
