Guilford County Farm Oil Paint Rendered, North Carolina
The less we have at stake
in any situation,
the freer we are to choose
the path that needs to be chosen.

We avoid conflicts of interest
when our interest is in the good
of the situation as a whole.

What is called for here/now?
What works best here/now?
What is crying out to be done here/now?

When we remove ourselves and our interests
from the situation,
we are free to consider the situation as it is.
What needs to happen here/now?

The answer is generally quite obvious,
and when it isn't,
it only takes sitting/standing/walking quietly
for things to settle down
and the necessary action to stand out,
in an, "Of course, let's do it!" kind of way.

Live to have nothing at stake in the matter--
any matter.
Be free to act in the service
of that which needs to be done,
when, where and how it needs to be done,
in each situation as it arises
all your life long.

It is the way.
The way of being in accord with the Way.

I'm retired, and still finding my way--but now, I don't have to pretend that I know what I'm doing. I retired after 40.5 years as a minister in the Presbyterian Church USA, serving churches in Louisiana, Mississippi and North Carolina. I graduated from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, in Austin, Texas, and Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. My wife, Judy, and I have three daughters and five granddaughters within about twenty minutes from where we live--and are enjoying our retirement as much as we have ever enjoyed anything.
