A Maine Pond Near The Wooden Boat School — Brooklin, Maine

Being Who We Are is our life’s work. We live to take our mind off who we are and how things are with us. Diversion, distraction, denial is our idea of the perfect day. Well, I have a suggestion: Take up the pass time of placing ourselves in a self-induced trance state. I look out the window. Dropping into the emptiness, stillness, silence, and drifting off into the nether world of neither here nor there, waiting for notions, ideas, realizations, nudges, suggestions, whispers to snag us and drag us off into some woolgathering reverie that brings me to life in another world, offering me communion with Tao, Psyche, Intuition, and waking me up to possibilities that make the day a pleasure. And give me something to look forward to tomorrow.

I'm retired, and still finding my way--but now, I don't have to pretend that I know what I'm doing. I retired after 40.5 years as a minister in the Presbyterian Church USA, serving churches in Louisiana, Mississippi and North Carolina. I graduated from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, in Austin, Texas, and Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. My wife, Judy, and I have three daughters, five granddaughters, one great granddaughter, and a great grandson on the way, within about ten minutes from where we live--and are enjoying our retirement as much as we have ever enjoyed anything.
