Yellow and Green on Blue Twice! Oil Paint Rendered — Indian Land, South Carolina, July 08, 2015
Carl Jung had Philemon,
I have Jake,
as an alter-ego/ever-present companion/guide.

My role is to get out of the way
with my plans/agendas/goals/expectations/
knowledge/desires/timetables/wishes/wants/etc.
and let Jake do it
what/when/where/how it needs to be done.

"IT" is like grass growing,
flowers blooming,
fruit ripening,
chicks hatching,
birds migrating,
the tide coming and going...

Everything in the natural world
happens in its own time,
in its own way.

Jake is my contact point/person
with the natural world.

I didn't make Jake up.
Jake appeared in a dream,
laughing at me for taking things
so seriously.

Jesus and the Buddha
could have used Jake in their life.
They would have had a better outcome,
and laughed a lot more.

Jake is with me to remind me
to wait it out
in an "everything has its own time"
kind of way.

People take their own lives
because they don't believe in
waiting it out.

"Just relax into it," says Jake.
"Trust me to work it out,
when, where and how
it needs to be worked out."

I don't have any responsibility
in the matter
beyond relaxing into the present,
and no say in the matter at all.

I let Jake do it.

Now that you know about Jake and Philemon,
relax into your dreams
and see who meets you there,
smiling and laughing,
winking and saying,
"I'm here. I have you covered.
Let me do it."

Listen to her/him.
Relax and enjoy the wonder
of the ride.

I'm retired, and still finding my way--but now, I don't have to pretend that I know what I'm doing. I retired after 40.5 years as a minister in the Presbyterian Church USA, serving churches in Louisiana, Mississippi and North Carolina. I graduated from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, in Austin, Texas, and Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. My wife, Judy, and I have three daughters and five granddaughters within about twenty minutes from where we live--and are enjoying our retirement as much as we have ever enjoyed anything.
