Deer Isle Moon Rise — Penobscot Bay, Deer Isle, Maine

Joseph Campbell said, “We know when we are on the beam and when we are off it.” And yet, being on the beam is contingent upon not thinking about it. Being at one with the Tao is not thinking about it. Not thinking about what to do, when, where, and how, and trusting ourselves to “just do” what is called for and what needs to be done about it in each situation as it arises is the key to being on the beam, doing what needs to be done, when, where and how, in each situation as it arises. Like a newborn baby is just who she is wherever she is. No baby ever overthinks being a baby.

I'm retired, and still finding my way--but now, I don't have to pretend that I know what I'm doing. I retired after 40.5 years as a minister in the Presbyterian Church USA, serving churches in Louisiana, Mississippi and North Carolina. I graduated from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, in Austin, Texas, and Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. My wife, Judy, and I have three daughters, five granddaughters, one great granddaughter, and a great grandson on the way, within about ten minutes from where we live--and are enjoying our retirement as much as we have ever enjoyed anything.
