Autumn Branches 10/28/2007 Oil Paint Rendered — Upper Pond, Bass Lake, Blue Ridge Parkway,
Blowing Rock, North Carolina
We live to have our way
and get what we want.

We live seeking the advantage,
the gain,
the profit,
asking "What's in it for me?"
and, "When is it my turn?"

We have no interest in what is called for
in each situation as it arises,
or what needs to come forth from within
in expressing/exhibiting/incarnating
our essential nature
and the innate virtues packed into our DNA.

We are here to be served,
not to serve,
and to rack up all we can
at the expense of whomever is in our way,
in a "Profit At Any Price" rampage through our life.

Talking us out of it is absurd.
Jesus tried talking us out of it.
The Buddha tried talking us out of it.
How well did that work?
The world is more like it is now
that it was when they were doing their thing.

So, I say, "Swing for the fences!
Maybe you'll be lucky
and grab the gold ring."

And then what?
Hmmm?

I'm retired, and still finding my way--but now, I don't have to pretend that I know what I'm doing. I retired after 40.5 years as a minister in the Presbyterian Church USA, serving churches in Louisiana, Mississippi and North Carolina. I graduated from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, in Austin, Texas, and Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. My wife, Judy, and I have three daughters and five granddaughters within about twenty minutes from where we live--and are enjoying our retirement as much as we have ever enjoyed anything.
