Along NY Hwy 30, Adirondack Park, New York

Donald Trump wants to transform history, and the Republican Party is all for it. This is crazy. And wrong. It’s psychotic, as in losing touch with reality. And, in this case, refusing to allow reality to be what it is by insisting that it is as they want it to be. When the President of the United States is this far removed from how things are in insisting that things are the way he wants them to be, he turns the country into a psychiatric ward and Alice in Wonderland becomes the new reality for everyone. And the Republican Party plays right along! In a “Whatever you say, Boss,” kind of way. This is outlandish in real time. This is not “play like.” This is not “Wink wink, nod, nod.” This is off the rails. Seriously. Officially. La La Land. When a large number of people agree that things are the way things absolutely ARE NOT!!! It is time for the rest of us to sit down and stop playing the game of not playing a game (R.D. Laing). How do we actually do that in real time right now? I. Do. Not. Know. But. That is what needs to happen. We need to stop going along with it. Maybe tee shirts would do it: I AM NOT WITH STUPID!!!

I'm retired, and still finding my way--but now, I don't have to pretend that I know what I'm doing. I retired after 40.5 years as a minister in the Presbyterian Church USA, serving churches in Louisiana, Mississippi and North Carolina. I graduated from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, in Austin, Texas, and Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. My wife, Judy, and I have three daughters, five granddaughters, one great granddaughter, and a great grandson on the way, within about ten minutes from where we live--and are enjoying our retirement as much as we have ever enjoyed anything.

  1. My suggestion is to follow Robert Hubbell’s Substack “Today’s Edition Newsletter.” Today’s selection (link below) discusses grass roots activism and includes many photos of people doing protests along roadsides and overpass messages via “Bridge Brigades” all around the US. This is in addition to calls and email messages to Congress. Robert, a retired Los Angeles attorney, curates the daily news cycle, similar to Heather Cox Richardson and he displays a calm approach to news (I listen to his calm voice every morning). His efforts are recognized and applauded by Heather Cox Richardson and Hillary Clinton. He is plugged in to activist groups all over the country.

Another factor I appreciate is that he will discuss the “scary” headline stories, but then shows how attorneys are on top of preventing the actions of the Trump Administration, which Mainstream Media neglects to present.
