Finding our way to The Way one situation at a time. I don't know how great it will be, but I expect it will be interesting, and I look forward to it going on past all reason because wonder is just that way. Are you coming or not?
I'm retired, and still finding my way--but now, I don't have to pretend that I know what I'm doing.
I retired after 40.5 years as a minister in the Presbyterian Church USA, serving churches in Louisiana, Mississippi and North Carolina. I graduated from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, in Austin, Texas, and Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. My wife, Judy, and I have three daughters, five granddaughters, one great granddaughter, and a great grandson on the way, within about ten minutes from where we live--and are enjoying our retirement as much as we have ever enjoyed anything.

Would using the phrase “put myself in neutral” be something similar? I try to put myself in neutral to accomplish small, ordinary tasks that I usually resist doing. I never thought about applying the “in neutral-mode” to a broader issue like politics.
sandync28704 and Jim : What you call “Neutral” is what Buddha called the ‘Middle path’. But it is a mistake to think of this as in the ‘middle’ of the two extremes, it is actually ‘beyond’ both extremes in the sense that it transcends both extremes. So, there is no middle between ‘caring’ and ‘not caring’ they are same though appearing to be opposites. Compassion is a quality beyond both- which implies caring without being attached and invested and clinging to what you are caring for. You care without any agenda, without any expectation, without any emotional involvement- this is another quality of caring which is beyond both caring and non caring
Neutral is compassion is intuition without attachment/investment/involvement, just doing what needs to be done in each situation as it arises, with nothing to gain and nothing to lose. The perfect fulcrum for all action.
