Reflection and realization, kid.
Reflection and realization.

This is the sum total of the spiritual life.

Taking vision quests.

Sitting in the emptiness/stillness/silence.

"Waiting for the mud to settle
and the water to clear."

Asking, seeking, knocking.

Thinking about our thinking.

Seeing our seeing.

Feeling our feelings.

Holding everything up to the light.

Turning the light around.

Flipping the normal and customary
to see what we may be missing
in what we are taking for granted.

Being curious about it all.

Questioning everything.

Taking Joseph Campbell's observation,
"Where you stumble and fall,
there is the treasure,"
to heart
and opening ourselves to the truth
of our experience in all times and places
in a "What am I missing here, now?"
kind of way...

Reflection and realization, Kid.
Reflection and realization.

I'm retired, and still finding my way--but now, I don't have to pretend that I know what I'm doing. I retired after 40.5 years as a minister in the Presbyterian Church USA, serving churches in Louisiana, Mississippi and North Carolina. I graduated from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, in Austin, Texas, and Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. My wife, Judy, and I have three daughters, five granddaughters, one great granddaughter, and a great grandson on the way, within about ten minutes from where we live--and are enjoying our retirement as much as we have ever enjoyed anything.

    1. It definitely does! A place where the entire nation, and the universal “nation” of democracy, sits at the wailing wall, reflecting, examining, inquiring, seeking, exploring, awaiting the realizations at the end of all of our searching, in order to see, hear, understand, turn and become enlightened/intuitive/knowing in all of our doing and being, world without end.

      1. PS. The Supreme Court justices are not evil as much as they are greedy. The conservative justices have been bought and are well-paid for their service to their owners. Money and the profit motive moves the world to ends that are not worth having. Money is the means to ends that are valueless.
