We have an affinity for this
and not for that
throughout all of the categories
of options and choices
that is natural to each of us
and quite different around the table.

"Explore your affinities!", I say.
"Do not allow any to go unnoticed, unknown!"

Our affinities bring us to life,
disclose our nature,
express our preferences,
expose us for who we are,
comprise our identity
in a "Me/Not-ME" kind of way.

I enjoy spending time with myself,
doing what I like to do,
being where I like to be,
and expect that most of us
would be able to say something similar,
with a life lived around
what we enjoy doing.

Why don't we do more of that
more often,
and let the pressure to live differently
drift away like the clouds passing by?

I'm retired, and still finding my way--but now, I don't have to pretend that I know what I'm doing. I retired after 40.5 years as a minister in the Presbyterian Church USA, serving churches in Louisiana, Mississippi and North Carolina. I graduated from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, in Austin, Texas, and Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. My wife, Judy, and I have three daughters, five granddaughters, one great granddaughter, and a great grandson on the way, within about ten minutes from where we live--and are enjoying our retirement as much as we have ever enjoyed anything.

    1. “Synchronicity” is a term coined by Carl Jung to mark off coincidences that are more meaningful than others. It’s a wonder to experience a “meaningful coincidence” when we come upon them, and a delight to look forward to, not knowing when and where the next encounter will occur! Thanks for the link!
