Finding our way to The Way one situation at a time. I don't know how great it will be, but I expect it will be interesting, and I look forward to it going on past all reason because wonder is just that way. Are you coming or not?

It is easy enough to toss out theology
and re-interpret the entire Bible
as a treatise on the order of the Odyssey
about the path to maturity and grace.
But the draw of being magically in control
of our future and our destiny
is too compelling to set aside,
so we tell the tales
as though they are about
what they are said to be about
and not about living to do what needs to be done
even if it means dying to our idea
of how things ought to be here/now
in each situation as it arises,
all our life long.
Never mind that that constitutes
the "Jesus-ness" of Jesus
and the calling of each of us
from birth to death along life's way.
I'm retired, and still finding my way--but now, I don't have to pretend that I know what I'm doing.
I retired after 40.5 years as a minister in the Presbyterian Church USA, serving churches in Louisiana, Mississippi and North Carolina. I graduated from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, in Austin, Texas, and Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. My wife, Judy, and I have three daughters, five granddaughters, one great granddaughter, and a great grandson on the way, within about ten minutes from where we live--and are enjoying our retirement as much as we have ever enjoyed anything.

Yes indeed, exactly what I was thinking this Sunday. I saw two woodpeckers this morning, cavorting up a tree.
