How we do something, say something
is as important as what we do, say.

When and where are as important
as what and how.

Doing the right thing
in the right way
in the right place
at the right time
is the complete package.

And we do not do it by thinking about it.
We do not do it by rehearsing it.
By practicing it.
By arranging for it to happen.

The trick is that it "just happens."

It happens as a spontaneous response
to the moment as it arises,
unfolds,
before us.

Integrity,
sincerity,
spontaneity,
expressing themselves
with what needs to happen
when,
where
and how.

That is what it takes.

We have to live so aligned
with what needs to be done/said,
that it becomes automatic,
natural,
like breathing,
or sneezing.

When we live like that,
the entire world is a better place
instantly
all the time.

I'm retired, and still finding my way--but now, I don't have to pretend that I know what I'm doing. I retired after 40.5 years as a minister in the Presbyterian Church USA, serving churches in Louisiana, Mississippi and North Carolina. I graduated from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, in Austin, Texas, and Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. My wife, Judy, and I have three daughters, five granddaughters, one great granddaughter, and a great grandson on the way, within about ten minutes from where we live--and are enjoying our retirement as much as we have ever enjoyed anything.

  1. Life is meant to be lived impromptu. Truthfully impromptu. Genuinely, authentically impromptu. As a lion is always a lion for the first time in each moment, just who she is “as one thus come,” here/now. No! Here/Now! NO! HERE/NOW!!!
