The gods have to meet their own standards, or be nothing more than thugs and bullies staking out their claims on the streets of civilization throughout the ages. "Shall not the Judge of the Universe do right?" chided Moses early on, calling for justice from the origin of justice. It is a call that stands the test of time. So, when we hear, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you," it is a measure we, in turn can apply to the wise bridesmaids, who declared, "Go get your own oil!", and to the arrogant landowner, who asserted that he could do whatever he wanted with what belonged to him. Not so fast, brothers and sisters. Justice cuts through all presumed exceptions and exclusions! Be yourselves what you expect from others! And don't think you can pull the old "God has no limits!" line on us. God is limited by God! Just as each of us have to answer to ourselves, so God has to answer to God, in doing what is right in all circumstances to all parties without exception or exclusion over time.
