There is sitting still,
being quiet,
allowing the days
to have their own
rhythm and flow,
and there is imposing
our will on the day,
every day.

Two very different ways
to go about living,
and they shake out
among the indigenous peoples
and the conquistadors.

Conquistador mentality
takes center stage
among the rulers of the world,
and of the world religions.

Indigenous peoples' mentality
finds its place
among the spiritual seekers worldwide.

Between the haves and the have-nots,
there is a line
that has more to do with mentality
than with money and power.

If you are preaching to
the wealthy and powerful,
you are wasting your time
and theirs.

I'm retired, and still finding my way--but now, I don't have to pretend that I know what I'm doing. I retired after 40.5 years as a minister in the Presbyterian Church USA, serving churches in Louisiana, Mississippi and North Carolina. I graduated from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, in Austin, Texas, and Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. My wife, Judy, and I have three daughters, five granddaughters, one great granddaughter, and a great grandson on the way, within about ten minutes from where we live--and are enjoying our retirement as much as we have ever enjoyed anything.
