Avalanche Creek — Glacier National Park, August 6, 2007
The winter months will offer a glimpse of winters to come
as the impact of global warming becomes an irreversible reality,
as most realities are.

And how we respond to an experience
is more important than the impact of the experience.
We pick ourselves up
and do what?

Everything hinges upon that,
hangs on that,
flows from that.

Practice your comebacks
until you are pleased with the way
they say who you are in the face of anything,
everything.

It is called "Being as ready as we can be
for the unknown that is on the way."

I'm retired, and still finding my way--but now, I don't have to pretend that I know what I'm doing. I retired after 40.5 years as a minister in the Presbyterian Church USA, serving churches in Louisiana, Mississippi and North Carolina. I graduated from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, in Austin, Texas, and Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. My wife, Judy, and I have three daughters, five granddaughters, one great granddaughter, and a great grandson on the way, within about ten minutes from where we live--and are enjoying our retirement as much as we have ever enjoyed anything.
