Acceptance comes in three phases:
Accommodation.
Acquiescence.
Adaptation.
Which require/flow from
having no opinion
about whatever comes our way
and no attachment to any outcome
or undertaking.

We do what needs us to do it
the way it needs to be done,
when and where it needs to be done,
with the same relationship
with it that Sisyphus had with his rock.

We are here to use the gifts
of our original nature
and our virtues/character
in the service of what needs us here/now
in each situation as it arises.

Not to impose our wants/desires
on what's happening
in order to arrange outcomes
pleasing to us.

"Just get in there and do your thing,
and let the outcome be the outcome."
Knowing that there are never
any actual outcomes,
just circumstances flowing into circumstances
for ever.

What we like and don't like,
want and don't want
are inconsequential
to the work that needs to be done
with the skills at our disposal,
and waits for us to do it
the way the rock waits for Sisyphus.

I'm retired, and still finding my way--but now, I don't have to pretend that I know what I'm doing. I retired after 40.5 years as a minister in the Presbyterian Church USA, serving churches in Louisiana, Mississippi and North Carolina. I graduated from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, in Austin, Texas, and Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. My wife, Judy, and I have three daughters, five granddaughters, one great granddaughter, and a great grandson on the way, within about ten minutes from where we live--and are enjoying our retirement as much as we have ever enjoyed anything.
