Calla Lily 04/23/2014 Oil Paint Rendered — Magnolia Plantation, Charleston, South Carolina
We know what is right for us
and what is wrong for us,
where we belong
and where we have no business being.

So, what's the problem?

Knowing what we know is the problem,
and doing what needs to be done about it.

Our practice has to be
knowing what we know
and doing what needs to be done about it.

This is our duty.
It is what we are born for,
who we are built to be--
with fealty,
liege loyalty
and filial devotion--
knowing what needs to be done,
and doing it when, where and how
it needs to be done.

No matter what.

I'm retired, and still finding my way--but now, I don't have to pretend that I know what I'm doing. I retired after 40.5 years as a minister in the Presbyterian Church USA, serving churches in Louisiana, Mississippi and North Carolina. I graduated from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, in Austin, Texas, and Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. My wife, Judy, and I have three daughters, five granddaughters, one great granddaughter, and a great grandson on the way, within about ten minutes from where we live--and are enjoying our retirement as much as we have ever enjoyed anything.
