Being right about what needs to be done
in each situation as it arises
and doing it when, where and how
it needs to be done
is all there is to it.

We don't do it
because we confuse
what needs to happen
with what we want to happen,
and we don't take the time even
to be sure about what we want to happen.

I don't know what to do about that,
but I think spending more time
with emptiness, stillness and silence
would go a long way
toward putting things back on track
and heading in the right direction.

But, everything is so easily dismissed
these days
that I've resorted to letting things
sort themselves out
and allowing people wake up on their own
or not
according to their own pleasure,
instead of yelling
WAKE UP!!! WAKE UP!!!
to everyone I see.

I'm retired, and still finding my way--but now, I don't have to pretend that I know what I'm doing. I retired after 40.5 years as a minister in the Presbyterian Church USA, serving churches in Louisiana, Mississippi and North Carolina. I graduated from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, in Austin, Texas, and Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. My wife, Judy, and I have three daughters, five granddaughters, one great granddaughter, and a great grandson on the way, within about ten minutes from where we live--and are enjoying our retirement as much as we have ever enjoyed anything.
