Mesquite Dunes and Grapevine Mountains Oil Paint Rendered — Death Valley National Park, California
What is right?
How do you know?
Where do your boundaries lie?
Who lays them for you?
What is the truth about you?
Who told you so?

There are things that define us
that we have nothing to do with.

They are just there.

We just are the way we are.
We just know the things we know.

Where do we go to talk about those things?
To explore them?
To discover what all is there
that we had nothing to do
with putting in place?

We are more than we know.
Why don't we do the work
of finding out who we are?

And working together with ourselves
to know and be who we are,
and do what is ours to do?

To find our life and live it?

What have we always dismissed,
discounted,
ignored?

About us?

"The stone the builder rejected
becomes the chief corner stone."

I'm retired, and still finding my way--but now, I don't have to pretend that I know what I'm doing. I retired after 40.5 years as a minister in the Presbyterian Church USA, serving churches in Louisiana, Mississippi and North Carolina. I graduated from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, in Austin, Texas, and Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. My wife, Judy, and I have three daughters, five granddaughters, one great granddaughter, and a great grandson on the way, within about ten minutes from where we live--and are enjoying our retirement as much as we have ever enjoyed anything.
